VAYN – My Clothing Brand

Our Story

Hi there, my name is Robyn Elms. I am the founder of VAYN. This is a personal message from me to you. I want you to know that I care about each and every one of you. I believe in you. Don’t let anyone get in the way of your success, not even yourself!

VAYN is more than just a clothing brand. VAYN is on an important mission to empower everyone to be UNAPOLOGETICALLY CONFIDENT in their own skin, whatever skin that may be.

I was inspired to launch the VAYN brand after realising from both personal and passive experience, that we are facing an epidemic of extraordinary people not reaching their potential as they do not believe in themselves, do not value and respect themselves, do not practice self-love, have poor self-esteem, lack self-confidence, are not doing the things that they love and are therefore not living a life of purpose. Ultimately this sadly leads to poor mental health and well-being, a feeling of not being fulfilled and happy in their life; which in turn affects their ability to be successful in their chosen field of endeavour.

Over the years, I have come to the conclusion that the more you practice self-love, the more you tell yourself that you are good enough and that you can do the things you want to do; the more confident you are as an individual and the more likely you are to go for it in life, and have more happiness, more success and less mental health problems.

The name ‘VAYN’ was created by flipping the negativity of being ‘vain’ into a positive, after recognising that there are so many wonderful benefits of being ‘VAYN’ and being unapologetically confident in your own skin, so long as you also encourage others to do the same.

VAYN was born out of my want to create something that people could be a part of. The #VAYNTRIBE are a family of like-minded, empowering individuals from all walks of life that are passionate about personal growth, as well as the growth of others. They believe in themselves and encourage others to believe in themselves too. The #VAYNTRIBE consists of people with varying confidence levels; from those who are just beginning their journey into self-confidence, to those that have been practicing self-confidence for a long time. In all cases, the #VAYNTRIBE empower each other to be better versions of themselves.

Our #VAYNTRIBE thrives on helping others to reach and surpass their potential, whilst also helping themselves to do the same. The great thing about being a part of the #VAYNTRIBE family is that once you are in, you are in for good and you know that you will always be empowered to be your best by everyone that is a part of the growing #VAYNTRIBE family. In our minds, the more we help others, the more we help ourselves, and this is a much better and sustainable society to be a part of. It is such a self-inspiring and euphoric feeling to know that you have helped someone take a step closer to becoming a more confident, happier and more successful person.

Another thing we care about is the environment, which is why we always opt for a slow approach to fashion, rather than the typical destructive fast-fashion that dominates the clothing industry. We use organic cotton in our garments (extra comfort and long-lasting) and recyclable packaging wherever we can as we want to start as we mean to go on – being as eco-friendly, ethical and sustainable as possible. Our tees and hoodies are currently made in a wind powered factory in India, shipped via the sea to the UK, where they are then printed in a solar powered factory to demand (no wastage). How cool is that?! We are also proud to have partnered with One Tree Planted, so now for every VAYN garment you purchase, a tree will be planted on your behalf somewhere in the world.

When you order a VAYN garment, you are making an smart investment in yourself. We ask that you to pledge to make a conscious effort to strive to incorporate the following 3 things into your life:

1. Confidence & Self-Love

We want you to strive to improve your self-esteem, self-belief, self-worth and self-respect with the aim of being unapologetically confident in your own skin. We want you to work on having the courage to be different and fully embrace who you are on the inside and how you look the outside. We want you to accept who you are and promote body positivity. Finally, as always we want you to empower others to practice self-love and be more confident in themselves too.

2. Mental Health & Well-Being

We want you to prioritise your mental health and well-being. We want you to do more of what makes you happy and talk about the things you are passionate about. We want you to actively practice positive self-talk, telling yourself that you are good enough and that you can do anything you set your mind to (because you really can). We want you to take the time out of your day to reflect on how things are going, to relax and recharge your batteries. Finally, we want you to empower others to talk more about mental health by being an imperfectly perfect example to them and let them know it is okay to seek help if they need it.

3. Success & Happiness

We want you to challenge yourself on a daily basis. We want you to do things that are not life-risky, but will get your heart racing and make you feel alive (even if that is feeling nervous or embarrassed). We want you to not take yourself too seriously and occasionally make a fool out of yourself for no reason other than to become more comfortable with the feeling of failing and to learn how to embrace it. We want you to go for it in life, to try new things and to take full advantage of the opportunities that come your way. We want you to celebrate your successes and give yourself the credit you deserve, whilst also staying humble. We want you to do things that are in line with your own individual goals in life, to help give your life purpose. Finally, as always we want you to empower others to go for it and achieve their aims in life too.

Our Values

In today’s society, customers are wanting to know the people behind the brands they love. To help you to get to know us, we thought it would be useful to list the values we have and strive to continue to have throughout our journey as a business and community.

Prioritise Customers

A lot of businesses claim to do this, even the ones who actually put profit before their customers. We are a very customer centric business and we always go out of our way to assist our customers where ever we can as we understand the value of our customers. After all, if we offer a great service to our customers they will be more likely to tell their friends about the great service they received and help our business to grow.

In the past we have discontinued using products and suppliers due to them not being of the high quality we expect for our customers. We quality check every item, and if we are not happy with it, we take it that you would not be happy with it either and contact you to let you know this is the case and contact our supplier for an immediate replacement. Our customers (and the planet) are at the heart of what we do and we make every decision with the customer in mind. If you ever have an issue, please contact us so we can help.

P.S. We are rated 5/5 on Trustpilot. Read our 5 star reviews here

Honesty & Transparency

We like honesty in people and people who are straight talking, so as a business we strive to do just that. We will always be clear about what a product is, its contents, what it can do and its origin. We will always indicate the prices of our garments and other products in a clear way with no additional fees to pay on our website.

Sustainability

As a brand that cares very much about the planet, we strive to be as eco-friendly as possible. We promise to put planet before profit. Here are some of the things we are doing to help be as eco-friendly as possible (if you have any suggestions for us on this, please contact us):

  • Plant a tree for every product sold. Click here to see how many trees we have planted so far.
  • Opt for e-packing slips rather than paper ones, to save resources.
  • Use recyclable thick paper packaging for our orders.
  • Use organic cotton/bamboo/recycled/recyclable materials in our garments/products
  • Use recycled/recyclable/biodegradable materials in our packaging.
  • If a product we like is not available in an eco-friendly version, we actively choose to wait until the right products become available as we believe in starting as we mean to go on – the right way.
  • Always on the look out for eco-friendly garments and products to launch on our website. Contact us if you have some recommendations of products you think we should stock on our website.

Inclusivity & Diversity

We see the value and potential in what very single person can offer. We want to build a community of people who lift others up, not break them down. We strive to be as inclusive as we can be, which includes people of all different sizes, ethnicity, age and (dis)ability. We are not doing this because the public wants to see this. We are a pro-inclusivity and pro-diversity brand because we represent everyone and we want to make being your unique self the norm.

We love difference. Being VAYN is about owning who you are, truly accepting yourself, loving yourself and helping others to do the same. It doesn’t matter if you have hair loss, a boob removed, a leg missing, a giant scar on your body. We believe your differences are what makes you special and beautiful. We love our diverse community (you can see this more on our Instagram) and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Positivity

We promise to always be a positive community that encourages everyone to be themselves and to help others to do the same.

And in that spirit, we wish you positive vibes and confidence on this day and forever more.

We Plant Trees

Total Trees Planted so far: 12

Environmental Feel Good Bonus: We have partnered up with One Tree Planted*, so that a tree will be planted for each garment or item that is purchased on www.vayntribe.com. The tree will be planted on your behalf in Africa, North America, South America or Asia (we will select the region at random).

Why are trees so important to the environment?

Trees help clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide habitat to over 80% of the world’s biodiversity. Forests provide jobs to over 1.6 billion people, absorb harmful carbon from the atmosphere, and are key ingredients in 25% of all medicines. Ever taken an Aspirin? It comes from the bark of a tree!

Here are the six pillars that explain why trees are so vital…

Air

Trees are like the vacuums of our planet. Through their leaves and bark, they suck up harmful pollutants and release clean oxygen for us to breathe. In urban environments, trees absorb pollutant gases like nitrogen oxides, ozone, and carbon monoxide, and sweep up particles like dust and smoke. Increasing levels of carbon dioxide caused by deforestation and fossil fuel combustion trap heat in the atmosphere. Healthy, strong trees act as carbon sinks; absorbing atmospheric carbon dioxide and reducing the effects of climate change.

Water

Trees play a key role in capturing rainwater and reducing the risk of natural disasters like floods and landslides. Their intricate root systems act like filters; removing pollutants and slowing down the water’s absorption into the ground. This process prevents harmful waterside erosion and reduces the risk of over-saturation and flooding. According to the Food and Agriculture Association of the United Nations, a mature evergreen tree can intercept more than 15,000 litres of water every year.

Biodiversity

A single tree can be home to hundreds of species of insect, fungi, moss, mammals, and plants. Depending on the kind of food and shelter they need, different forest animals require different types of habitat. Without trees, forest creatures would have nowhere to call home.

– Young, Open Forests: These forests occur as a result of fires or logging. Shrubs, grasses, and young trees attract animals like black bears, the American goldfinch, and bluebirds in North America.

– Middle-Aged Forests: In middle-aged forests, taller trees begin to outgrow weaker trees and vegetation. An open canopy allows for the growth of ground vegetation preferred by animals like salamander, elk, and tree frogs.

– Older Forests: With large trees, a complex canopy, and a highly developed understory of vegetation, old forests provide habitat for an array of animals, including bats, squirrels, and a variety of birds.

Social Impact

From arborists, to loggers, to researchers, the job opportunities provided by the forestry industry are endless. We don’t just rely on trees for work; sustainable tree farming provides timber to build homes and shelter, and wood to burn for cooking and heating. Food-producing trees provide fruit, nuts, berries, and leaves for consumption by both humans and animals, and guarantee health and nutrition.

Health

Did you know that hospital patients with rooms overlooking trees recover faster than those without the same view? It’s impossible to ignore that feeling of elation you feel walking through a calm, quiet forest. Trees help reduce stress, anxiety, and allow us to reconnect with nature. In addition, shade provided by tree coverage helps protect our skin from the ever-increasing harshness of the sun.

Climate

Trees help cool the planet by sucking in and storing harmful greenhouse gases, like carbon dioxide, into their trunks, branches, and leaves, and releasing oxygen back into the atmosphere. In cities, trees can reduce overall temperature by up to eight degrees Celsius. With more than 50% of the world’s population living in cities—a number expected to increase to 66% by the year 2050—pollution and overheating are becoming a real threat. Fortunately, trees can absorb up to 150 kg of carbon dioxide per year, making cities a healthier, safer place to live.

Do you know the impact you are having on the Planet?

Eco-Friendly Packaging

We are a conscious brand and try to be as eco-friendly as possible.

We’re proud to send our garments out in thick brown paper packaging that is 100% recyclable. Then if needed, we will also use metal staples to ensure the parcel keeps closed, finished with some paper masking tape over the staples.

We also send our packing slip via email as we are striving to be as paperless as possible.

Our garments are sent to you without a label, as we believe these are unnecessary and just add to the waste problem, even if they are recyclable.

Here are some photos of previously sent out orders, so you can get an idea of what your parcel may look like:
